As you probably know, gum disease is something you should strive to avoid. You’ve probably known that, in order to keep your teeth healthy and strong, you should brush and floss regularly. Similarly, you probably know that you should visit a dentist once every six months for a routine cleaning and exam. However, do you know what you would do if you have gum disease? Also, what do you know about the stage of gum disease?
You see, the first stage of gum disease is called gingivitis. Sadly, gingivitis is an inflammation in your gums, though the infection isn’t usually too severe. In fact, this stage of gum disease can usually be reversed simply with brushing and flossing. However, if gingivitis isn’t addressed quickly enough, it could progress into periodontal disease. Unfortunately, periodontal disease is harder to reverse. That is why a deep cleaning can usually help with this stage of gum disease.
Sadly, if this stage of gum disease isn’t addressed, you could have to deal with advanced periodontal disease—which is also known as periodontitis. This more serious form of gum disease can lead to bone loss, tooth loss, and even oozing gums. Similarly, chewing may become painful. Similarly, you may need to visit your dentist even more often.
In essence, if you catch gum disease early, you’ll have a much better chance of avoiding the issue altogether. Please remember to brush and floss properly. When you brush, please remember to brush for two minutes at a time twice a day. Conversely, you don’t need to floss twice a day—though you should floss at least once. Also, some mouthwashes can help you avoid these issues altogether.
In other words, catching gum disease early is the best way to keep your teeth healthy and strong. Also, please remember to brush twice a day for two minutes at a time and remember to brush at least once a day. Rinsing your mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash can also help.
