Tooth erosion occurs when the structure of your teeth become worn down due to the chemical dissolution of acid. There are many different products that you consume each day that can cause tooth erosion, and some of those products are carbonated drinks, fruit juice, wine, fruit, pickles, yogurt, and honey. Tooth erosion is a common dental issue found in many smiles. To help you identify tooth erosion in your own smile, our Roanoke Dental Care team recommends looking for the following signs:

Sensitivity- Because your tooth enamel is wearing away, your teeth are becoming extremely sensitive. You might notice this symptom when you experience a jolt of pain in your tooth when you consume hot or cold products.

Discoloration- When your teeth are eroded, the outside enamel is torn away from the tooth, exposing the underlying dentin. This will cause tooth discoloration and will make your smile look yellow.

Rounded teeth- Acid tends to eat away at the edges and corners of your teeth, so eventually they will begin to look more rounded.

Cracks- Acid can cause cracks, chips, and roughness at the edges of your teeth.

Cupping- As the acid wears down your teeth, it creates dents or small craters on the surfaces. This might also cause the dental fillings to appear to be rising out of the teeth.
